After making a name for himself on the indy circuit with strong showings in the Pacific Northwest and the Global Wrestling Federation (where he both feuded and teamed with Sean "X-Pac" Waltman), Jerry Lynn finally got his "big break" in 1995 when he was signed to a short-term contract by WCW. However, head honcho Eric Bischoff, displaying the keen decision-making skills that eventually got him removed from his position in WCW, decided that Lynn was too small to be realistically pushed as a regular joe, so Lynn was asked to revert to a masked persona he had used in brief stints in Japan: Mr. JL. As JL, Lynn had memorable matches in the early weeks of Monday Nitro with Sabu and Devon Storm (yes, both signed with WCW for a brief period), and faced off with the nWo Sting (he can be seen briefly in WCW's recent "Sting Was A Bad Guy All Along" promos); but, apparently not impressing enough of the countless WCW decision-makers (Bischoff, Kevin Sullivan, Terry Bollea, Dusty Rhodes...take your pick), his trial contract was not converted to a full-term deal. Of course, after firing the "too-small" JL, Bischoff pushed the even smaller Rey Misterio, Jr. to superstardom, while Lynn went on to a more high-profile position in ECW, feuding memorably with both Rob Van Dam and the Impact Players. And one of these days, he may even get a win on PPV...
