When WCW signed Georgia indy worker Sugar Ray Lloyd to a long-term contract, they promised him a huge push, and attempted to deliver with an elaborate Mortal Kombat-like angle known as Blood Runs Cold. Lloyd became Glacier, and for months WCW ran promos that heralded his coming. Unfortunately, the promos were so vague and repetitive and ran for so long that eventually the fans just stopped wondering who the big fuss was over, and the angle was over before it started. Of course, the specifics of the storyline didn't help, either. You see, Glacier was a former Georgia law enforcement officer who tok a trip to the Orient, studied several secretive martial arts variations, and was given by his sensei a ceremonial helmet and shield imbued with ancient powers. Wait, it gets worse: soon, a bush-league manager named James Vandenburg showed up with a bone to pick with Glacier. He dubbed himself a collector of human oddities, and he brought in two such oddities with ties to Glacier's convoluted past. One was Wrath, who was in reality a friend of Kevin Sullivan's named Bryan Clark who had wrestled in several independents as the Nightstalker. The other was Mortis, a "pit fighter from Asia" who, despite his outlandish costume, quickly proved himself as the only talented one of the bunch. After a few months of tag team confrontations between Mortis/Wrath and Glacier/Ernest Miller, the whole angle was mercifully dropped. After being involved in an auto accident, Wrath returned and quickly got himself over as a monster heel. Glacier was given a poorly-planned heel turn before taking several months off and being repackaged as Coach Buzz Stern. Miller became a jive-talking, Cat-Bo teaching moron with a cult following. And Mortis? Well, Mortis unmasked in a relatively well-written program with Raven and began using his real last name, Kanyon. He later joined the Flock in its' dying days and forged a long-term alliance with Raven before turning on him and joining the Jersey Triad with DDP and Bam Bam Bigelow. Who'th bettah than Kanyon?
